Weather Policy
We do not hold an event if Pitt County cancels that day (such as for inclement weather); a “rain date” will be posted when feasible.
Auditions
Children in grades K-12 are eligible; a link to the signup list will be posted online prior to auditions for specific day and time slots. We ask that only auditioning children enter the room, both to prevent distractions and limit the fear factor of performing for an audience. Young actors unable to audition in this setting may need to wait before joining us on stage.
- Young readers (K-2) should recite a poem.
- Older readers will read from the script (pages provided at auditions).
- All actors may be asked to demonstrate vocal range, movement capability, pretend to be a character, etc.
- Forms will be available online and in person to fill out.
- Bring a small photo for the director (not returned).
- No fees will be collected until a child is cast.
- Remember to have fun!
Rehearsals
The cast meets on weekdays after school; times are based on the director and show requirements, and will be announced with auditions. Smaller parts generally rehearse once a week; larger roles may rehearse twice a week or even every day in the case of the lead actor(s).
Attendance is mandatory for rehearsals during the last two weeks. Please alert us to any known conflicts or absences when auditioning or as soon as possible.
Everyone will review the entire show the last week of rehearsals starting at 6:30pm each day (actors may be called earlier depending on makeup or costuming requirements). Rehearsals may last until 9:00pm this week; some younger children may be released earlier, depending on the needs of the show.
Family Meetings/Responsibilities
Each show begins with a family meeting, scheduled on a Monday from 6:30-8:00 pm. It is mandatory for all cast members and a parent/guardian to review rehearsal etiquette, sign legal forms, and meet with volunteer team leaders (check out this page to learn more about service opportunities). Actors will receive their scripts after signing a form promising to obey all production rules.
An additional orientation may be held online on the previous Thursday for anyone new to our organization, or who would like a review on how things work. Learn how to read the calendar, sign up for costume fittings and monitoring duties, and much more! It’s the perfect opportunity to get your questions answered.
Families who do not participate in these meetings risk their young actor being released from the cast, unless special arrangements have been made in advance with the director or producer.
Fees
The current production fee is $50 for the first child in a family and $40 for each additional child. These fees pay for a pizza party on the last day of performances, show t-shirt, and professional photography taken during dress rehearsal. Scholarships are available. No additional money is required; we provide all costumes, shoes, scripts, etc.
Crew
Crew members must be at least 12 years old (or 10 with parental participation), and pay a $5 fee (due on the Technical Orientation Day). Show T-shirts may be purchased for $15. There are two options for participation:
- Pre-Production: set/props construction/painting takes place for on Saturdays during the rehearsal process from 10 am till 3 pm unless otherwise notified; we encourage everyone to bring a snack or bag lunch. Wear sturdy shoes (no sandals or flip-flops) and be prepared for paint to get on clothing.
- Show Crew: work backstage or in the booth during performances; participants must attend the last two weeks of rehearsal and participate in striking the set after the last show. Running crew members will receive a black shirt to work backstage.
All crew members are eligible to attend the pizza party after the set is struck on the last day of performances.
