Any students would would like to submit artwork for the program of the fall production, A Christmas Carol, should send it to Smiles and Frowns Playhouse by Saturday September 30th.

Smiles and Frowns Playhouse uses student generated artwork for our shows. Any school age student may submit original artwork for consideration to be used in our publicity. The artwork should reflect this fall’s production of A Christmas Carol.

Entries must be original and on unlined paper in heavy pencil or ink (no markers, crayons, etc). Submitted work should NOT include the title of the show but should include the artist's signature. Please put the artist's contact information, including email, on the back of the work in pencil. Deadline for submissions is September 30th and can be turned in at any rehearsal or mailed to P.O. Box 1945, Greenville, NC 27835.

The winning entry will be used in our ads, playbill, poster and show t-shirt. The winner will receive a show t-shirt and two complimentary tickets to the show. They will also have their artwork on display in the Ayden Recreation and Arts Building. All artwork submitted will be displayed during the performances in the concession area.

All artwork becomes the property of Smiles and Frowns Playhouse and will not be returned. Smiles and Frowns reserves the right to alter the artwork chosen to suit our publicity needs.

Smiles and Frowns Playhouse will hold auditions for the Fall production, "A Christmas Carol." Auditions are September 5 & 6 from 5-7 p.m. at the Ayden Arts and Recreation Building, 4354 Lee St. in Ayden, NC.

Students in grades K-2 will be asked to recite a poem or other work (at least 4 lines) by heart.Older students will be expected to read from the script. All auditioning students must bring a recent picture of themselves (wallet sized school picture is ideal).

There is no cost to audition and up to 40 students will be cast. If cast, there is a production fee of $40 which includes a show t-shirt and cast picture as well as the use of costume and script. There are some scholarships available for students with a financial need. Contact the producer for more information.

Students age 12+ interested in working on the Tech Crew should come to the audition to fill out paperwork and pay a $5 liability insurance fee.

Students may also submit original artwork to be considered for the program cover, t-shirt design, and publicity. Deadline and information about submissions are posted on our website.

The production dates are Nov. 10 @ 7 p.m. and Nov. 11 @ 2 p.m.

Congratulations to Leah Ward, winner of this year's Smiles and Frowns Playhouse Andrea Croskery scholarship! And thanks to our panel of judges: Robin Ashley, Javier Castillo, and Sarah Pauling Midgett. Leah's check will be presented at the 3/24 performance of "Hansel and Gretel."

Applications are due January 31st. The recipient will be announced in April. The 2016 award was $1,000.
