We are looking forward to having some fun on stage this spring. Thanks for joining us!

After a year of no performances at the Doug Mitchell Auditorium in Ayden, Smiles and Frowns Playhouse is excited to announce we are following up last fall's PopUp Playhouse with a series of acting workshops we're collectively calling Smiles and Frowns Clubhouse! There will be three different workshops-one for each age group--5-8 years, 9-12 years, and 13-18 years with different topics for each. Depending on interest, other workshops may be offered in upcoming months.

March 27th from 12:30pm to 4:30pm--ages 13-18
Powerful Pauses--Exercises in dramatic and comedic timing

Even without a show in production, Smiles and Frowns Playhouse will still be awarding the annual Andrea Croskery Smiles and Frowns Playhouse scholarship. The deadline for is rapidly approaching. The scholarship is awarded each year to a graduating senior who has participated in at least three Smiles and Frowns Playhouse productions and is planning to continue their education. The completed application and accompanying documents must be delivered or postmarked by January 31st. The winner of the award will be announced in March.

This is another very difficult announcement to make. It has become clearly evident that the ongoing and worsening COVID-19 pandemic requires Smiles and Frowns Playhouse to again cancel our production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Our hope is that the fall will bring better circumstances and we will be able to stage the production then.

We look forward to having tons of fun doing this new kind of theater!

The wait is over!! PopUp Playhouse is happening. We have scheduled two workshops: October 10 and October 17 from 12:30pm to 4pm at the Ayden District Park. The link for the sign-up will be posted right here on Wednesday at noon and there are only spaces for 24 actors (aged 8 to 18), so don't wait to sign up. Actors can attend only one of the workshops. If there is no space left when you go to sign up, please send an email through the contact tab or on our Facebook Page: Smiles and Frowns Playhouse. If there is enough interest, we may add an additional session on November 7th.

The Smiles and Frowns Playhouse board delayed making a decision about the fall production for as long as they could. But after watching the latest developments in the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become evident that staging a production this fall would not be wise under the current and forecast conditions. We felt that we would not be able to maintain adequate social distancing during rehearsals, work days and performances and did not want to put actors, tech crew, parents, or audience members at risk of infection.

Eyes are on the weather for tomorrow. A decision about whether to cancel the rehearsal will be made by 2pm tomorrow. Current forecast is for snow to start after 8pm, so no risk.

Want to support children doing theater in eastern North Carolina? Place an ad in the playbill for our next production. Please make contact by February 19th. Here's the link to the form: http://www.smilesandfrowns.org/sites/default/files/public/Smiles%20and%2...

Hey everyone on The Jungle Book tech crew!
We will not be working on the set this Saturday. There are going to be some changes that need to be worked out before we can proceed further with the construction. So, enjoy your weekend break and we'll see everyone next week on the 22nd to continue building our jungle. We'll see everyone then! --Ms Susan
