Time for Auditions!!

The time is nearly here! And we've certainly waited long enough.

Auditions will be September 7th and 8th from 5 to 7pm

Please review the files attached to this post for lots of information about responsibilities and expectations and the three forms for actors and one for tech crew members that need to be completed and brought to one of the audition dates.

We will also be running auditions slightly differently because of COVID precautions. Basically, we are asking for everyone coming into the building to wear a mask and practice social distancing and will be using scheduled audition times. The details on how we intend to facilitate this are outlined in the document SOCIALLY-DISTANCED AUDITIONS included below and under the Cast/Crew tab

Please try to bring completed paperwork with you to auditions. If this is not possible, plan to arrive 15 minutes before your child's scheduled audition time and request the forms from the volunteer at the front door and return to your car to complete them.

Also, please remember to bring a small head and shoulders picture of your child to the auditions. If this presents a difficulty, please take a picture with your phone of your child holding a paper with their name and email it to smccreasfplayhouse@gmail.com. The photo will be printed and added to your child's audition packet.

We are looking forward to an exciting time, as we return to rehearsal and production. Please help us make this as smooth a restart as possible.

Come Join Us at Smiles and Frowns Clubhouse!!

After a year of no performances at the Doug Mitchell Auditorium in Ayden, Smiles and Frowns Playhouse is excited to announce we are following up last fall's PopUp Playhouse with a series of acting workshops we're collectively calling Smiles and Frowns Clubhouse! There will be three different workshops-one for each age group--5-8 years, 9-12 years, and 13-18 years with different topics for each. Depending on interest, other workshops may be offered in upcoming months.

March 27th from 12:30pm to 4:30pm--ages 13-18
Powerful Pauses--Exercises in dramatic and comedic timing

April 10th from 1pm to 4pm--ages 5-8 years
A is for Animal--Using simple puppetry and movement to tell the story of “The Elephant’s Child”

April 24th from 12:30pm to 4:30pm--ages 9-12 years
Beyond “The Lion King”--Creating a character and scene for the less familiar animals in Simba’s story.

Workshops will be in the auditorium at the Ayden Arts and Recreation building (4354 Lee St) We are limiting actors to ten per workshop session. The cost of each workshop is $10. Scholarships are available for those who need them. A link for the sign up will be posted here and on our Facebook page at 12 noon on Wednesday March 10th. More specific details and other important information will be available at the same time.

We are eager to get our actors back on stage and can't wait to see everyone!

Seniors, Time to Apply for the Scholarship!

Even without a show in production, Smiles and Frowns Playhouse will still be awarding the annual Andrea Croskery Smiles and Frowns Playhouse scholarship. The deadline for is rapidly approaching. The scholarship is awarded each year to a graduating senior who has participated in at least three Smiles and Frowns Playhouse productions and is planning to continue their education. The completed application and accompanying documents must be delivered or postmarked by January 31st. The winner of the award will be announced in March. Refer to the attached file for the necessary forms and other documents. Good luck to all our seniors!!

Production Postponed Again

This is another very difficult announcement to make. It has become clearly evident that the ongoing and worsening COVID-19 pandemic requires Smiles and Frowns Playhouse to again cancel our production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Our hope is that the fall will bring better circumstances and we will be able to stage the production then.

For now, we will be trying to determine other ways to reach our mission of encouraging children to engage in theater. We are so appreciative of the support we have received during this difficult time. We look forward to when the Smiles and Frowns Playhouse family will again be able to gather and create theatrical magic together. The show WILL go on, just not right now.
